“Where there is love there is life.” Mahatma Gandhi
At Sip & Ship, to live with love and give love is at the core of what we do. It’s our essence of being in a small business, to serve and give back whenever we can. Especially this Valentine’s Day, we are celebrating love through our services, retail products and encouraging all of those around us to share love and send love through the mail. Before screens, swipes and clicks, sending and receiving a card or letter was exhilarating, and guess what? It still is!! Sitting down to write or read words of love, share encouragement and stories pierce the heart with a jolt of dopamine that doesn’t translate as authentically from a screen. Throughout the month of February, we want to signify the importance of participating in random acts of kindness. Not only within Sip and Ship, but with strangers, neighbors and people who you love. It's simple to start with eye contact and a smile. The rest naturally, and sometimes awkwardly, unfolds from there - just stay curious and go with it. Sip and Ship will also be announcing special partnerships with neighboring small businesses on our Instagram page: sipshipshop. For instance with Greenhouse Nail Spa --supporting the idea that we all rely on small businesses to feel connected and gain a sense of community. Fellow female founder Kelly and her team are committed to delivering excellent products and services — just like Sip and Ship! So it makes sense to share our love for them with you! Drop by to experience the royal treatment for yourself or treat that special someone in your life. We look forward to seeing you at Ballard or Greenwood Sip and Ship to share a smile, hand you your mail, serve you warmth from our cafe and tie ribbons on your purchases with our gift wrapping services! xo Your Sip & Ship Team

They can reawaken a friendship, reconnect loved ones, and represent meaningful and lasting expressions of love. When was the last time you mailed or received one?
You know when you're away from home or somewhere unfamiliar? Away from family and friends? Away from those missing pieces of what make you…you? They’re no longer in the next room, at the kitchen table and the cookie jar is empty. Receiving a care package with elements inside from someone who loves you becomes such a powerful expression of love. It's like Christmas morning except better because you get all of the treats inside carefully curated with love just for you. This takes me back to a time in fourth grade when I got my first care package. It left such a lasting impression on me (I mean, hello Sip and Ship!). Away at summer camp, my counselor did her daily “mail-call” where my name never seemed to be called. I was often slumped in the grass smiling half-heartedly as my tent mates jumped up to collect letters from their parents. Eagerly ripping open the envelope, pouring over the words inside and delicately tucking their letters away. Pulling them out later from under their pillow to revisit them with a flashlight. As if recreating their bedtime ritual, gently whispering each inscribed word into the air. For me, resembling a sweet lullaby as I gazed up at the night sky, wishing they were words meant for me. Then the day finally came. Nudging me from the warmth of my seat in the hot afternoon sun. A brief interruption from picking blades of grass, my name was called and a box was handed to me. On its surface was my name in my mother’s handwriting. This made my heart skip a beat and butterflies dance in my stomach. It was a box just for me. Inside was a book of Mad Libs, several loose pieces of bazooka bubble gum, and a pack of pale green tic tacs that were now melted into one. The letter inside was brief but said just what I needed to hear…”thinking of you, love mom.” This is one reason why I love sending care packages today: they're a fun way to show people how much they mean without having to say very much at all. In our experience the best way to send a care package is often, to mark an occasion, or just because. We recommend stuffing any sized postal flat rate box with their favorite homemade cookies, granola, and snacks. Flat rate boxes provide you with reasonable price options, 2-3 day delivery service, and door to door tracking within the continental US. We can’t wait to ship your next care package. Soup To Nuts of Shipping at Sip and Ship
We hear this question a lot and want to dive into it with you in a three part series. We will be publishing helpful tips and tricks on this topic over the next three weeks including the most common shipping scenarios we encounter at Sip and Ship. Most of you are already aware that shipping costs can vary based on a few package key components. Those are size, weight, value, destination and delivery speed. In this three-part series, we’ll share a few different shipping scenarios, break them down and hopefully bring a bit of clarity onto the shipping scene. We’ll cover best ways to (1) handle online returns, (2) mail a care package, and (3) ship fragile or unique items with safety with greater peace of mind. Today, let's tackle the first one: how to best handle online returns. They truly have become the most frequent package type Sip and Ship handles. We understand that having to deal with them can pain in the neck. However, here are a few tips to rid yourself of those pesky but necessary online returns. First, if the company you’re returning the item to has provided you with a prepaid shipping label, USE IT! Their shipping label is the most cost effective way to return your item. Even if the company deducts a small fee from the original cost of your online purchase, it is still the most economical way to return it. Don’t have a printer? No problem. Email your shipping label to us and we can print it out upon your arrival and affix it to your package. Secondly, it’s always a good idea to open your online packages delicately. Simply because you never know how things work out. Stay a step ahead by planning to reuse the original mailer, box, or bag your item came in. Honestly, it's better for the earth and your wallet - helping you avoid any unnecessary packing expenses. However, if the original packaging has been damaged or deemed unusable, don't sweat it. Sip and Ship is happy to help get it packaged up for you in a flash. Finally, in the event you are NOT provided a prepaid return label, simply bring your online return to Sip and Ship and we’ll share some shipping options to help you determine the best way to return it. During your visit, we'll invite you to take advantage of our full service coffee shop to reward yourself for an errand well done! Drop off a your online package and pick up a freshly baked pastry and warm latte. Our cafe team is proud to serve you housemade savory scones, jam biscuits, and ever-popular salted-chocolate chip cookies. We look forward to seeing you soon. We're looking back on 2022 with deep gratitude.
While some fabulous and not so fabulous moments happened last year, we’ve had some memorable ones: we've seen you smile, laugh, and enjoy your time with us; we've had the honor to serve you; and the chance to get to know you better as individuals and as a community. And that's what makes being a small business so special. We couldn't do any of this without your support—and we want to say thank you for keeping us here. Your mailboxes, packages, coffee orders, card, and gift buying, connected with courteous conversation, keep our lights on—giving us the opportunity to serve you and fill our hearts with pride. Thank you for your kindness and loyalty in 2022. It makes us happy to be helpers and serve you. There are great complexities and layers that everyone faces in their lives and Sip and Ship is no different. We enjoy being your champion, cheerleader, and problem solver. Our team (some of whom are your children, neighbors, and friends) is here to provide clarity in uncertain times, bring order to chaos, and ease those day-to-day moments that can sometimes be overwhelming. We embrace you and whatever brings you through our doors in 2023 — so from our team to yours, Happy New Year - here’s to moving onward together! |
