A LATTE, A LITTLE NOTE AND THE GOOD THINGS WE SHARE

There’s something lovely about this time of year in Seattle.

The mornings have just a little more crispness to them. The light is still beautiful. Summer is lingering, but backpacks are coming out, calendars are filling up, and we’re beginning to settle into that familiar rhythm of a new school year. We say: let’s enjoy these in-between days while they last. Preferably with a latte in hand.

EMBRACE YOUR LATTE HABIT

We recently came across a lovely reminder that your latte habit might just be worth embracing. Not because you need another coffee. But because small rituals matter. That first sip while you gather your thoughts. A familiar face behind the counter. Ten quiet minutes before the day gets moving. A pastry shared with someone you love. Sometimes the little things are the things that make a day feel good. And lately, we’ve been thinking about another little ritual we love: sending a handwritten note.

A CARD CAN GO A LONG WAY

In a world where so much arrives as a text, an email, or a notification, there’s still something wonderful about finding a handwritten note in your mailbox.

A birthday wish. A little “good luck” for someone heading back to school. A thank-you to a friend. A note to someone you haven’t talked to in a while. Or simply: I was thinking about you. So, for a little inspiration, we’re pairing two of our favorite things.

Buy five cards and receive $1 off a latte or pastry.

Pick out a few cards while you’re here. Write one when you have a quiet moment. Send it to someone who could use a little encouragement, a little celebration, or simply a reminder that they’re loved. Small gesture. Big feeling.

WE’RE ALL HELPERS
A couple of weeks ago, our shop was broken into. It was unsettling, and several of our customers were affected. As we worked through it, we were met with an extraordinary amount of patience, kindness, and understanding. It reminded us of something we’ve believed since we opened our doors 24 years ago:

We’re not just a place to send a package, grab a coffee, or pick up a card. We’re a community of people who look out for one another.

One customer, Margaret, put it beautifully when she wrote to us afterward: “You guys are helpers, and I want to be part of that.” That stayed with us. Because really, that’s what we hope Sip and Ship is—a place where people help each other. Sometimes it’s a cup of coffee. Sometimes it’s finding the perfect card. Sometimes it’s helping someone figure out how to get something where it needs to go, and getting important documents notarized. And sometimes it’s simply being patient, kind, and showing up when someone needs a little extra grace. And our helpers aren’t just our customers.

This week, we’re also celebrating Maddie’s five-year workaversary at Sip and Ship. Five years of showing up, helping customers, pitching in, and being part of the everyday work that makes Sip and Ship run smoothly. Five years is a lot of cups of coffee, packages, conversations, problem-solving, and helping hands.

We’re grateful for Maddie—and for every member of our team who brings their own version of that helper spirit to Sip and Ship each day.

SO, BEFORE SUMMER SLIPS INTO FALL…

Take a few minutes for the little things. Come have the latte. Choose a card. Write the note. Send a little encouragement to someone heading back to school. Wish someone a happy birthday. Say thank you. Tell a friend you’re thinking about them. It doesn’t have to be profound. It just has to be yours.

And if you happen to leave with a latte or pastry and five cards in hand, well… we’ll consider that a pretty good day.

Maybe that’s what community looks like after all: a lot of little things, done by a lot of helpers, for one another.

Thank you for being one of ours.

We’re looking forward to seeing you again soon.
